The history of James Stevenson & Son
The funeral directors at James Stevenson & Son have been serving the community for over a century, having been established in 1900. We are funeral directors with a real sense of family and community serving the people of Ballymena and the surrounding areas spanning over 5 generations.
1900 – 1931
James Stevenson & Son was founded by the late Alex Stevenson in the local village of Kells, just outside of Ballymena. Sadly Alex died when coming home from a funeral on the 24th June 1931.
The second generation was his son William who ran the business after his father had died along with his son James, the third generation.
The business moved to Linenhall Street in Ballymena.

The business moved to its present location, Cushendall Road.
Sadly William passed away suddenly on the 13th of June, 1977. James was then joined by his son Darwin in 1989 – the fourth generation.
Sadly James passed away on the 23rd of February, 2004, and Darwin continued to run the business.
Darwin’s son Ryan, the fifth generation, joined the business. Like the generations before and still to this day, James Stevenson & Son is being run by a father and son team.
Darwin’s son Rhys joined the business.
At James Stevenson & Son, we are dedicated to offering personal and sympathetic funeral services at all times. Browse through our gallery for some images of the headstones and memorials we supply. To discuss your needs, contact us today.
